Cannock is one of three towns that make up Cannock Chase in the county of Staffordshire; with a history that led to its development as a thriving coal mining district during the industrial revolution. At one stage there were 53 coal mines in the area that transported the coal via a strong transport network that included roads, rail and canals. By 1958 Cannock Chase was designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and Cannock is the largest town here. Visitors following the history of war come here to see the Cannock Chase German war cemetery, containing 4,885 German military dead from the First and Second World Wars.
The town centre at Cannock has plenty of eateries, outdoor and indoor markets, independent shops and shopping centres alongside an excellent choice of clubs, bars and traditional pubs. Activities are catered for with outdoor spaces, parks, an ice-skating rink and the swimming and leisure centre here.
