The historic town of Camborne in the scenic county of Cornwall was one of the major centres of mining in the world during the industrial period. The area was rich with tin and mining brought prosperity, a growth in population, development and a heritage that can be seen in its local heroes including; Richard Trevithick, inventor of the first high pressure engines. Although Trevithick’s invention led to the first locomotive, it was George Stephenson who perfected the idea and is credited with the first train some 25 years later. The original inventor is remembered here through the Trevithick Society that is dedicated to keeping the records, the statue of Richard Trevithick outside Camborne Town Hall and with an annual Trevithick Day Parade of pristine steam engines.
The town of Camborne is well located for those looking to explore this diverse area with its pretty beaches, majestic hills and variety of flora, fauna, wildlife and scenery. There are ample amenities and shops, pubs and eateries as well as visitor attractions and places of historic interest to enjoy.
