The small market town of Callington in the scenic county of Cornwall is situated in a beautiful area and is internationally famous for its Honey Fair and Mural trail. Legends of King Arthur originate in this region and Callington is no exception, it has been suggested that the town is the site of the ancient tribal capital of the Kingdom of Cornwall known as Celliwig with references made in the Welsh Triads and other manuscripts. Although the town is know to have existed for many centuries, Callington grew and developed primarily in the 19th century during the mining boom, as much of the town’s architecture will attest; the centre of the town is a conservation area with well preserved vernacular architecture including the parish church of St. Mary's that was consecrated in 1438 and contains the fine brass of Nicholas Assheton and his wife.
Callington is a pretty town with ample amenities and shops, pubs and eateries as well as visitor attractions and events for visitors to enjoys, including; the well known Mural Trail where you can see the murals of life here painted on walls by professional artists, college students and school children throughout the town and come October each year, the town fills with colourful celebration for the renowned Honey Fair.
