Caldbeck

A traditional fell village, Caldbeck is in the picturesque county of Cumbria and within the Lake District. The town is along the River Caldbeck and its tributaries that have contributed so much to the history and prosperity of the town. Industrial development from the 17^th century was fuelled by water power for the corn mills, woollen mills, bobbin mills, paper mill and brewery. Many historic buildings survive and the oldest here is St. Kentigern's Church, at the heart of the village. Caldbeck's most famous former resident is the hunter John Peel, whose grave is in the local churchyard.

This area is very popular with visitors who come to walk, climb, ride and partake in the many outdoor activities on offer here in the diverse countryside. Caldbeck's closest fell is High Pike and it is the starting point for many other fell walking routes.

As well as ample amenities, shops, pubs and eateries, Caldbeck offers the visitor historic buildings and sites of interest, including; a limestone gorge complete with waterfalls, just past the village duck pond as well as the ruins of the old Bobbin Mill that once boasted the largest waterwheel in the country.
