Caerleon

The suburban village of Caerleon on the River Usk in South Wales has a rich and diverse history that makes it a place of archaeological importance. Caerleon was the site of one of Britain's three permanent Roman Legionary Fortresses, Isca Augusta; founded about 74 AD. Located beside the River Usk in a strategic position that was surrounded by sheltering hills, many believe it to be the location of King Arthur's Camelot. In 830 AD Nennius listed Cair Lion as one of Britain's 33 cities.

This is a thriving village where the past remains present, in the land, legends and buildings of Caerleon. At its heart is Goldcroft Common and most of the shops, amenities and businesses are found in this area, along with many historic building; including Saint Cadoc's Church, the National Roman Legion Museum, the Roman Baths Museum, the Round Tower, the Toll House at Caerleon Bridge and of course, the historic remains of Isca Augusta. Beautiful countryside surrounds Caerleon and walks will take you to vantage points offering breathtaking views of the valley.
