Bury St Edmunds is a historic English market town in the county of Suffolk. It may once have been the Roman settlement Villa Faustina, but the present town is Saxon in origin. The modern town developed around the brewing and malting industry, and as a primary cultural and retail centre of the region. Tourism forms a major part of the economy and so the town offers excellent shopping prospects, restaurants, a range of pubs and entertainment venues, in addition to a choice of quality holiday accommodation.
Among the many popular attractions of the area are the ruins of the Abbey of Bury St Edmunds, where the sister of Henry VIII, Mary Tudor, Queen of France, was first buried. She was exhumed and reburied in the town's St Mary's Church six years after her death, during the Dissolution of the Monasteries.
