Burscough

Burscough is a Northern English village near Ormskirk and Skelmersdale in West Lancashire, only half an hour from Blackpool Pleasure Beach. With a population of less than 10, 000 inhabitants, Burscough is actually the product of two villages merging through recent growth. The village retains the idyllic prettiness of a rural Lancastrian village, however, and is particularly well situated along the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, which is one of the more popular waterways for holiday-makers exploring the region by barge.

The town offers a range of activities for visitors to the area, with a Fishery on Warper's Moss Lane, which consists of four man-made lakes, which are well stocked with a range of fish, (including 20 pound carp), for which visitors can purchase a day ticket to fish. On the edge of Burscough there is a large wildlife reserve at Martin Mere , which is a popular wildfowl reserve and visitor attraction owned by the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust having previously featured on the BBC television series Autumnwatch. The Windmill Animal Farm is also a very popular family attraction in the village, which features a petting zoo and a 15" gauge working railway around a man-made lake.
