Bures

The village of Bures in the county of Suffolk is actually divided down its centre by the River Stour, making two parishes; Bures Hamlet and Bures St Mary. The other unusual feature of this division is that the river marks the county boundary line between Essex and Suffolk, putting Bures St. Mary in Suffolk and Bures Hamlet, in Essex. The village is at the heart of picturesque ‘Constable’ country in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Dedham Vale comprising the area around the River Stour between Manningtree and Bures was made famous by the paintings of John Constable. The centre of Bures has its own beauty with historic buildings dating from the 16th and 17th centuries.

With such a wealth of scenery and fabulous natural attractions, visitors come throughout the year to enjoy this beautiful area. Bures has amenities, shops, pubs and eateries as well as historic buildings and nearby visitor attractions. River walks reward the visitor with bank side trees, wet meadows, a variety of river habitats as well as a vast range of flora, fauna and wildlife.
