The town of Broadstone has become a thriving suburb of Poole in the beautiful county of Dorset and is a far cry from the simple farm settlement that started here in the mid 19th century. A farm was built close to the pond in 1840 and the first church was built in 1853. By 1872 Broadstone’s railway station was built and was originally called New Poole Junction; Poole refused to have a railway station in the town. The station offered journeys on the Southampton and Dorchester Railway and was finally renamed ‘Broadstone’ in 1890. The next notable event came in the early 20th century, when two local men converted 60 acres of their land into a lavender farm for the production of lavender oil, that a factory in Broadstone turned into perfume. The iconic perfume bottles with pictures of Broadstone on them, ceased to be produced when the factory burned down in a fire in 1935.
Broadstone’s main street 'The Broadway' offers lots of shops, churches and amenities and there are ample eateries, pubs and further shopping in the area. The town’s position is ideal for those wanting to explore this fascinating county and the nearby port town of Poole. Visitors come to the area throughout the year to enjoy the activities offered in Poole’s harbour, local historic sites and places of interest as well as the wonderful countryside that is popular with walkers, bird watchers and those looking to enjoy diverse wildlife, flora and fauna.
