Broadstairs is an English coastal town on the Isle of Thanet in East Kent, between Margate and Ramsgate. It is a popular seaside resorts that was established in the 14th century as a fishing settlement named Bradstow, which is an Old English term for the "broad-stairs", that were carved into the chalk cliffs of the coast that provided access from the sand to a shrine to Saint Mary on the clifftop.
The town is situated in a series of sandy bays that are sheltered between cliffs. One of the bays, named Kingsgate Bay, is overlooked by a the clifftop Kingsgate Castle.
