The market town of Bridport in the beautiful county of Dorset is amidst the majestic golden cliffs of the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site, in a place rich with geological discovery. The town lies at the western end of Chesil Beach where the River Brit meets the Asker and Simene tributaries and has grown up around the fishing, port and rope making industries. The port is no longer operational and it is now ‘West Bay’, offering fishing trips, scuba diving, paragliding and an exceptional place for family holidays.
Bridport is an attractive town with ample amenities, a good choice of eateries and pubs as well as a wealth of local cultural, historic and visitor attractions. The Jurassic Coast and West Bay attract visitors who come for the fantastic outdoor activities, walks, diverse geology, wildlife, flora and fauna and the sheer beauty of the area. Each year Bridport celebrates with a large, colourful carnival that features parades, entertainment and a dramatic finale with a torchlight procession where 1,500 torches are carried through the town centre to a bonfire at West Bay.
