The large village of Braunton in the attractive county of Devon overlooks the picturesque Barnstaple Bay and is home the nearby Braunton Great Field and Braunton Burrows. The Burrows is an important British sand dune site, the largest sand dune system in the country. The ecology of this system is particularly important as it includes incredible dune plant communities and is rich in lichens and herbs. With the abundance of rare species here, Braunton Burrows is designated a National Nature and UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.
