Bradford

Bradford is a metropolitan city of West Yorkshire, in Northern England, at the foothills of the Pennines. It is an ancient city, the origins of which date to the Norman Conquest, with the earlier settlement having been destroyed in an uprising against the invading Normans. The name of the city is derived from the "broad ford", which once crossed the stream called Bradford Beck. Bradford was already a small town by the middle ages but the arrival of the Industrial Revolution brought the canal, rail and improved rail links, making Bradford one of the most accessible, and one of the most populated cities in England.

Despite number of people at its heart, Bradford is a gem of vibrancy set in the immense wilderness of Yorkshire: a region which spans three National Parks: — the Yorkshire Dales, the North Yorkshire Moors and the Peak District, in addition to the untamed moorland of Bronte Country, the Howardian Hills and the Yorkshire Wolds. West Yorkshire in particular is a unique part of the country to visit, with a fantastic combination of the old and the new in such close proximity. Transport links in the region are some of the best in the country due to the industrial and mining heritage of the area, making it easy to fill each day of your visit with as much, or as little, activity as you fancy, with minimal planning required in advance.
