Bootle

The ancient, seaside village of Bootle in the picturesque county of Cumbria, lies within the Lake District National Park, between the Cumbrian coast and the slopes of Black Combe and Bootle Fell. Around the early 14^th century Bootle was granted a market charter by Edward III; the original market cross was replaced in 1897 in honour of Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee and is still here today. The village church is the 13^th century church of St. Michael and All Angels that retains much of its Norman masonry although it was renovated in 1837. The stained glass windows of the church are beautiful, with the east window by John Hardman and the chancel north window by Henry Holiday.

Bootle remains a stone-built farming village in an outstanding area that offers a wealth of opportunity to enjoy outdoor activities on the coast and within the Lake District National Park. Alongside Bootle’s main road is the River Annan and the village is ideally situated for exploring the western Lake District. The village has ample amenities and a shop as well as a choice of pubs and eateries in the area and nearby towns.
