Bootham

Bootham is a district of the ancient city of York in North Yorkshire, England. It is situated just outside of Bootham Bar, which is one of the ancient gateways of the substantial Roman Walls of York. The name of the town is derived from an Anglo-Saxon phrase describing 'the place of the booths', referring to the shanty dwellings of the settlement that grew on the site in the shelter of the city walls.
Bootham Bar has some of the walls' oldest surviving stonework, which dates as far back as the 11th century and is situated on the site of an earlier gate of Eboracum.

York Minster, JORVIK York and the National Railway Museum are just a few of the attractions in the immediate area, with Flamingo Land Theme Park & Zoo, Eden Camp and Castle Howard, being among the many others within easy reach.

The North Yorkshire region as a whole is a very attractive and historical landscape of rivers, moors and ancient rural villages, which is an extremely pleasant visiting place for walkers and fishing enthusiasts, as well for that traditional English family holiday filled with fun, intrigue and adventure.
