Bo'ness is a coastal town in the Scottish council area of Falkirk. It is situated on a hillside, on the south bank of the Firth of Forth, which drains into the North Sea. It was once an busy industrial and coal mining town, and a major port, but is now mostly a commuter town for the capital city, Edinburgh, which is a few miles further down the firth.
The town is at the eastern end of the Antonine Wall, the less famous brother of Hadrian's Hall, which stretched from Bo'ness on the east coast, to Old Kilpatrick on the west coast. The Roman fort of Veluniate once stood in the town in the grounds of what is now Carriden House and many artifacts of this period have been discovered in the area and are now on display in the museum of Edinburgh.
