Bodedern

The village of Bodedern in Anglesey, Wales on this unspoilt island is amidst beautiful countryside and dramatic coastlines in an area renowned for its historic sites, breathtaking scenery and diverse wildlife, flora and fauna. The village is the closest settlement to Anglesey’s largest natural lake, Llyn Llywenan. The lake has a maximum length of nearly a mile and although Anglesey’s Llyn Alaw and Llyn Cefni lakes are larger, they are man-made. Llyn Llywenan is a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest because of the uncommon aquatic plants that grow here and because of the silting that may threaten the lake’s existence in the future.

Bodedern attracts visitors who want to explore the history and natural beauty of the surrounding area and although there are few amenities, more developed towns and villages that offer an excellent choice of shops, ample amenities, eateries and pubs are easy to reach. At the lake are two Neolithic burial mounds, one of which remains well-preserved; except for a large block of wood that is used to support its half-metre thick capstone. The other mound is badly damaged with only one upright remaining.
