Bloxham

A charming, friendly and attractive village that is the epitome of picture postcard England. It is located approx. 3 miles South of Banbury and is divided into two by the main A361 route to the heart of the Cotswolds en-route to Chipping Norton.

One of the prettiest sites here is St. Mary's church, reputed to have the tallest spire in Oxfordshire, standing at 198ft. The church dates mainly from the 14th and 15th centuries, but is remarkable for the stunning east window by William Morris and Burne-Jones. A unique and unexpected Norman doorway beckons you in to the calm interior with the remains of mediaeval paintings, fine stone carvings and perpendicular architecture of the Milcombe Chapel.

Bloxham is made up of ancient winding lanes, edged by early buildings that are architecturally beautiful. A small thatched building that serves as the village hall is known as the Court House and was built in 1689. A part of the Court House is given over to the Bloxham Village Museu. The museum is open to visitors every Sunday afternoon from April to October and is the perfect starting place for exploring the heritage of this lovely place.
