Blaydon

Blaydon is a town in County Durham that is highly industrious and relatively ‘young’ at not more than two centuries old.  Despite the short history, there has been activity in the area for many centuries. In the latter part of the 18th century, the setting up of a smelting works heralded a time of industrial growth in the area. With the River Tyne in such close proximity and the coming of the railway, Blaydon was perfectly placed to play a role in the Industrial Revolution.

There is some history to be explored here no matter how brief; St. Cuthbert's parish church dates from 1845 and perfectly reflects the growth in the town’s prosperity at the time. For visitors, the Shibdon Pleasure Grounds are a wonderful place to spend time enjoying the stunning views out towards the Tyne Valley. With well cared for flower beds, smooth lawns, bowling greens, tennis courts and a childrens’ play area.
