Bladnoch

Bladnoch is a village in the Scottish council area of Wigtownshire. It is situated on the bank of the Blandnoch and is the location of the distillery for Bladnoch Malt Whisky, and an historically important crossing point of the river. The settlement developed in the 16th century as a dwelling place for labourers who worked on the construction of the bridge to replace the old ford. This was necessary for the safe crossing of pilgrims on their way to Whithorn, as its temporary wooden predecessors were often destroyed in floods.
