Blackwood is a town within the Caerphilly County Borough. It is situated on the Sirhowy River, in the valleys of South Wales. Its excellent transport links and have made Blackwood a popular commuter town for those who work in the cities of Newport and Cardiff. Its convenient location has also caused it to become an ideal tourist base from which visitors like to explore the vibrant cities and picturesque landscapes of South Wales. Blackwood was founded in the 19th century by local colliery owner, John Hodder Moggridge, who built the first houses in an attempt to build a model village.
