Bitterne

Bitterne is an eastern suburb of the city of Southampton, in England. The town originated as the Roman settlement of Clausentum, which later developed instead, in a neighbouring location to become Southampton. The remaining village grew under the influence of Bittern Manor, the "house on the river bend" after which the Old English name Byterne was acquired.

The nearby Swan Centre in Eastleigh offers good leisure and retail potential, a pedestrianised shopping precinct in the high street, and Bitterne Market runs every Wednesday from 09:30 - 15:30, with stalls ranging from book stalls to stationary, bags, butchers, local produce and gifts. There is a good range of pubs, restaurants, and entertainment venues in the local area, along with a choice of holiday accommodation.
