Originally a village north of Blackpool on the North East coast of England, Bispham Village, as it is still known to its residents, has become a suburb of the tourist resort of Blackpool.
The 1970 discovery of the "Carleton Elk", a 12,000 year old animal skeleton found with barbed arrowheads provides the evidence that humans inhabited the Fylde coast as early as the Palaeolithic era. It is also known that the area was also home to a sub-tribe of the Brigantes called the Setantii and later by the Romans who controlled the Setantii from a fort in Kirkham. In that period the area was bog land and forested by oak.
Although much quieter and more suburban than central Blackpool, Bispham offers holiday makers an excellent platform from which to enjoy everything the resort can offer while still gaining the benefit of rest and relaxation in Bispham's more peaceful setting. Bispham is situated just a little further north along The Queen's Promenade and so boasts excellent transport links and a much quieter beach, with a choice of ecological reserves, gardens, golf, leisure facilities and quality restaurants and accommodation in its own right.
