The village of Billingshurst in the county of West Sussex lies at the intersection of the old London to Chichester road, Stane Street and the Wealden highway that is now the A272. The village at the crossroads also finds itself on the route of the Wey and Arun Canal and a major railway line, so getting here has never been a problem. Coaching traffic used to provide much of the trade and led to the prosperity of the village. The high street here reflects its past as it is one of the longest, straight roads in Sussex and home to Ye Olde Six Bells; a former coaching inn built in the 16th century. When the railways came in the 19th century, The Railway Hotel was built to accommodate more travellers.
Billingshurst offers good amenities, plenty of shops, pubs and eateries as well as true village charm and a heritage visible in its historic buildings. Billinghurst and the surrounding area offer plenty for visitors to see, do and enjoy, including lovely walks along the canal, nearby visitor attractions and of course historic sites of interest. The welcome at Ye Olde Six Bells continues today and it remains a beautiful place with its overhanging jetty.
