Biggar is a town and former burgh of around 2,000 people in the Scottish council area of South Lanarkshire. It is situated in a scenic location of the Southern Uplands, near the River Clyde, which is roughly 30 miles away from Edinburgh and neighbouring the towns of Lanark and Peebles. Biggar serves as a commercial centre for a relatively wide rural area, in the midst of a number of villages and hamlets. It is popular for being the start of the Biggar Country Path network, and has several museums, including the Moat Park Heritage Centre, Gladstone Court Museum, GreenhillCovenanters Museum, and the Biggar Gasworks Museum, which is the only preserved gas works in Scotland.
