Belvedere is a suburb of the London Borough of Bexley. The term "belvedere" is Italian, meaning "beautiful view" and so the town is thought to have been named for its charming views over the Thames Estuary. The Erith Marshes, the substantial ruins of Lesnes Abbey within the ancient Lesnes Abbey Woods, Bostall Heath and Woods, West Heath, and Thamesmead are also nearby and, in conjunction, form one of the more popular beauty spots in the South East, with excellent links to and from the capital. Belvedere is characterised by stonework cottages and an ornate church, along with a number of very reputable pubs, which make it an excellent place to relax and enjoy a well-needed break.
