Beeston

The town of Beeston is found in the county of Nottinghamshire, famed for its links to the legend of Robin Hood. As a silk weaving centre in the early 19th century, Beeston grew from a tranquil village to a hive of industry and growing prosperity. The silk industry is long-gone now and the first silk mill was sadly burned down, along with Nottingham Castle in 1831, during the Reform Bill riots. Beeston still has plenty of historic buildings for visitors to explore though, including; the grand manor house and parish church of St. John the Baptist. The church dates back to the 11th century but what you see today is the result of rebuilding in 1843 by Sir George Gilbert Scott.

Beeston has a pedestrianised shopping area along the High Road with a fantastic choice of restaurants, cafes and shopping; the town is best-known for its unique selection of independent shops and specialist food suppliers catering to a wealth of cultures.  Beeston can claim the ‘highest concentrations of pubs-per-person in the United Kingdom’, with pubs of all types vying for trade. From traditional British pub to modern gastro-pubs, Beeston has them all. The Victoria Hotel is a particularly attractive example of Victorian architecture that is adjacent to the railway station and the recipient of several local awards.
