Beauly

The town of Beauly in Inverness-shire, Scotland lies in an outstandingly beautiful area on the River Beauly that journeys through the Scottish Highlands; the river reaches Beauly Firth to the south of town after starting its journey 25 km away to the west where the River Farrar meets the River Glass. Beauly developed and grew as a result of the fertile land and traded in coal, timber, lime, grain and fish. The town attracts visitors throughout the year who come to enjoy the fantastic countryside as well as the many wonderful visitor attractions. Beauly is the site of the Beauly Priory and where Lovat Castle once stood. The Beauly Shinty Club have also bought pride to the town. Shinty is a team-sport played with sticks and a ball throughout the Scottish Highlands with the Beauly Shinty Club winning the Camanachd Cup three times and the World Championship once.

Beauly offers ample amenities and plenty for the visitor to see, do and enjoy with outstanding natural as well as historic and cultural attractions including the 13th century Priory Church of the Blessed Virgin and John the Baptist that was founded by John Bisset of the Aird, for Valliscaulian monks. The church is a ruin now but its architecture is still evident. Nearby and amidst the stunning countryside are further attractions; just south of Beauly is Beaufort Castle, in the Scottish baronial style and to the south-east of town is the church of Kirkhill, Highland.
