Beamish

The small village of Beamish in County Durham is contained within the worryingly named ‘Hell Hole Wood’ and is where the unique, open-air Beamish Museum is located. The area offers outstanding natural scenery and an abundance of flora, fauna and wildlife. With golf courses, fishing, horse riding, cycle trails, walks and other outdoor pursuits well catered for, visitors come for the area as much as for the village

The Beamish Museum has something to enthral the whole family. Beamish is a unique open-air museum that portrays and preserves precious examples of everyday life in urban and rural North East England at the climax of industrialisation in the early 20th century. On its 300-acre estate it utilises a mixture of relocated, original and replica buildings; a huge collection of artefacts, working vehicles and equipment; as well as livestock and costumed interpreters. Nearby Beamish Lakes is another worthwhile place to visit; with an all-trout fishing lake, rural countryside setting and as much pleasure and relaxation as the weather allows.
