Bathgate is a town in the Scottish council area of West Lothian, neighbouring Livingston, Blackburn, and Armadale, and Edinburgh Airport. It is also within close proximity of a Neolithic burial site. The area is known to have been populated since circa 3500 BC, which is a popular draw for professionals and enthusiasts with an interest in the subject. The existence of Bathgate was first recorded in a charter by King Malcolm IV of Scotland, in 1165, as Bathchet, which was derived from a Cumbric term meaning "Boar Wood".
Attractions in the area include Livingston's Countryside, Beecraigs Country Park, Polkemmet Country Park, Annet House Museum & Garden, House of the Binns, and Blackness Castle.
