Barton upon Humber

The small town of Barton-upon-Humber in the county of North Lincolnshire, is found on the south bank of the Humber Estuary; in the shadow of the magnificent Humber Bridge. With a wealth of impressive and historic buildings, this has been an important town through the ages. Barton upon Humber has a long history which can be traced back well before the 10th century AD.  In 1880, with the establishment of Hopper’s Cycles in the town, a prosperous cycle industry grew and it became an important centre for the manufacture of bicycles.

Whilst visiting Barton-upon-Humber it is worth making time to visit its Saxon church tower of St Peter's where there have been many Saxon archaeological finds. Barton remains a well loved town today, with a traditional shopping area and popular, well developed waterfront including the new Waters' Edge Country Park and Visitors Centre. For those with a passion for outdoor pursuits, Barton is ideal. The North Lincolnshire and Humberside Sailing Club is at Barton Mere on the Humber and over towards the bridge is the impressive Water's Edge Park that is a home for wildfowl.
