Barrowford

Barrowford in Pendle is a picturesque village and popular tourist destination in Lancashire, England, with a population of over 6,000. The two rivers of the village are the gin-clear Pendle Water, and the Colne Water, which joins further down from the moors — both of which are rich in trout — making this a popular location for fishing holidays. Like many places in Lancaster, Barrowford was once heavily involved in the textiles industry and so is also an excellent destination for touring by barge, being conveniently located only a mile from the Leeds-Liverpool Canal, about two miles from Foulridge Tunnel, which is known locally as the mile tunnel.

Some interesting landmarks in the area include the 16th century packhorse bridge and Higherford Mill, which featured on the BBC televisions series Restoration in September 2006 and now houses artists' workshops. One of the last examples of a working weaving shed can be seen at the East Lancashire Towel Company, which still manufactures terry towelling on the traditional Lancashire looms.
