Barnet

High Barnet and Chipping Barnet are two combined suburbs in the London Borough of Barnet, in North London. The two are generally known simply as Barnet. Chipping Barnet refers to the medieval market town that was chartered in the 13th century, while Chipping Barnet was formerly a village and a civil parish of the same name, belonging to Hertfordshire. In 1965 it was transferred to Greater London. The area was the woodland of Southaw in the Saxon period, and belonged to the Abbey of St Albans. The Chipping Barnet horse fair, the Barnet Fair is the origin of the cockney rhyming slang term for hair, which is now more commonly abbreviated to just barnet.

Barnet Hill is believed to be the hill of the nursery rhyme "The Grand Old Duke of York", as it was the site of the Battle of Barnet in 1471, in which King Edward IV led Yorkist troops against a rival.

The town now offers a well-stocked high street, ample entertainment venues and a choice of quality holiday accommodation by which the visitor can take advantage of this convenient location with close proximity to a number of attractions along with all the sites and activity of the English Capital.
