Bakewell is a small market town on the River Wye, in the Derbyshire Dales, in England. It is the only town within the Peak District National Park, and is best known for the creation of the Bakewell Pudding. The town is near to Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall, which are very popular tourist attractions of the region.
The town is believed to have been founded by the Anglo Saxons and the Bakewell Parish Church, is a Grade I listed building that was founded in 920. It was already a busy market town and trading centre of the area by 1254. The five-arched bridge over the River Wye was constructed in the 13th century and is also Grade I listed. Bakewell later became a spa town with the discover of a chalybeate spring in 1697, and much like neighbouring Buxton, the town became quite prosperous under the patronage of wealthy visitors.
