Aylesham

Aylesham is a small village located in the county of Kent and was originally made into a village in the 1920’s to provide accommodation for coal miners. Although small, Aylesham is in a great location and retains the traditional qualities of its roots as a coal mining village. Now, many families in Aylesham have been there for generations and are direct descendants of the miners that originally inhabited the town after its creation.

The town is focused around the main Market Square, which boasts a range of shops and a small supermarket.

During the second world war, Aylesham had its own home guard, made up of mainly coal miners and was often involved in numerous rescue operations in nearby Canterbury.

Even though Aylesham is not a particularly large town, it does have many interesting places to visit, including:

The White Cliffs of Dover
Dover Museum
Minster abbey
Dover Castle

The White Cliffs of Dover (one of England’s National Trusts is located just 9 miles away from Aylesham and is perfectly placed for visiting Kent and the surrounding areas.
