Aspatria

The small town of Aspatria is in the picturesque county of Cumbria, at the edge of the Lake District; with beautiful scenery and views from Skiddaw in the Lakes to Scottish fells. The town name means ‘place of St. Patrick's ash tree’ and has been settled for more than 3.000 years; with evidence suggesting it was home to a group of Norsemen who fled to the area from Ireland. The grave of a Viking chief was discovered here in 1789, on Beacon Hill. Further history can be seen in the architecture of Aspatria; a yew tree lined avenue leads visitors to the site where a Norman church once stood and was replaced in 1846 by the striking, stone church of St. Kentigern.

Aspastria is a delightful little town set amidst stunning scenery, offering lovely walks, and an abundance of outdoor activities in the area. Historic sites and buildings, visitor attractions, ample amenities and shops, eateries and pubs are available in the area and the town.
