The internationally famous village of Ascot is in the county of Berkshire and home to the prestigious Ascot Racecourse where the race meeting, Royal Ascot is held. Royalty and Ascot have a long history of association, Queen Anne liked to hunt in Windsor Forest and it was in the early 18th century that she decided that this was an ideal place, less than five miles from Windsor, for "horses to gallop at full stretch". It was Queen Anne who founded the famous race-course in 1711.
Ascot village has a wide, bustling high street with independent shops, restaurants, traditional pubs and cafes for the visitor to enjoy. Visiting during the month of June is the best time, for those looking to savour the vibrant and exciting world of horse racing. The village comes to life with an influx of visitors from all over the world who come not only for the famous race meeting but also for the accompanying display of fashion.
