The River Arun runs through the historic market town of Arundel in the county of West Sussex and is a large part of what made the town a success. Arundel is an important bridging point across the river and was once a port. The Normans built Arundel Castle here and the town grew on the slope below it. The castle and Gothic Cathedral that was dedicated in 1873, still dominate the skyline against a picturesque backdrop of ancient woodland.
The town continues to thrive and visitors will find a variety of independent retailers, antique shops, galleries, art shops, tea rooms, river cruises and a host of visitor attractions, including; the nearby Amberley Museum featuring craftsmen at work, vintage bus rides, narrow-gauge railway and fascinating exhibits; the Arundel Farmers Market in Town Square on the 3rd Saturday of each month and the spooky Arundel Ghost Experience, set in the shadowy candlelit passages of the old prison cells, plus of course, the majesty of the castle and cathedral and so much more.
