Ambleside

Ambleside is a popular tourist town in Cumbria, in North West England. Which is famous due to its enviable position at the head of the beautiful Windermere, England's largest lake, in the Lake District National Park.

A ferry service operates on a regular circuit between Ambleside, Bowness-on-Windermere and Lakeside, allowing visitors to take in the scenery of the lake from every angle, while providing easy access to the variety of sites, walks, attractions and activities on offer in this famous region of England. Ambleside is commonly used as a base for hiking, mountaineering and mountain biking, with a good selection of shops, hotels, guest houses, pubs and restaurants to choose from. The Loughrigg Fell rises above the town and the Red Screes and the hills of the Fairfield group are situated just to the north, while the Wansfell is to the east.

Local landmarks and attractions include the Roman fort of Galava; the Armitt Library and Museum; the 300-year-old Bridge House information centre, which is owned and managed by the National Trust; and William Wordsworth's house at Rydal Mount.
