Airdrie

Airdrie is an attractive and ancient Scottish town in North Lanarkshire. It is situated on a scenic plateau roughly 12 miles east of Glasgow city centre, and neighbours the town of Coatbridge in a district formerly known as the Monklands. The area was a predominantly farmland worked by the Cistercian monks of Newbattle Abbey. It is now characterised by a large number of small towns and villages, and known for its popular local fishing locations, for excellent cycling, and for the pleasant walks suitable for various fitness levels.

The town offers good shopping prospects in its pedestrianised high street on Graham Street, which has recently been refurbished with a new precinct, along with a good choice of quality holiday accommodation and excellent transport links. Attractions in the area include the Airdrie Public Observatory, the Summerlee Industrial Museum, Motherwell Heritage Centre, Bothwell Castle, Hunter House Heritage Centre, Calderglen Country Park, and Glasgow Cathedral, to name only a handful.
