Abergavenny

Abergavenny is an attractive market town set in a stunning mountainous landscape, in the Welsh county of Monmouthshire. It is located 15 miles to the west of the county town of Monmouth, and 6 miles away from the English border. Its name means Mouth of the River Gavenny, and it is so named for its position at the end of the Gavenny, where it joins the River Usk.

The Blorenge, and the Sugar Loaf mountains, along with the five hills of Skirrid Fawr, Ysgyryd Fach (Skirrid Fach), Deri, Rholben and Mynydd Llanwenarth, overlook the town, for which reason this is a very popular place to visit. Many visitors to the town return many times over the years, as the town is also situated just to the south of the Black Mountains, on the edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park. Several important walking routes pass through or near to the towns, including Offa's Dyke Path long distance footpath, the Marches Way, the Beacons Way, and the Usk Valley Walk.
