Aberdeen

The city of Aberdeen in Aberdeenshire, Scotland is the third largest city in Scotland and the main seaport serving the north-east of Scotland. This cosmopolitan city has evolved from the varied influences of its past to develop a distinct character that is often referred to as the ‘Silver City’; due to vast amount of grey and sometimes sparkling building stone that was used in the construction of the older buildings here. Nature though has not been forgotten and the city is also referred to as ‘The Flower of Scotland’, with a wonderful reputation for outstanding parks, open spaces, gardens and floral displays. With the North Sea at its coastline, Aberdeen stands on a bay between the mouths of the rivers Don and Dee and benefits from a busy harbour and attractive beach. The architecture too enhances the beauty of this city and Aberdeen is home to some of the oldest university buildings in Europe, including the late 15^th century King's College.

Aberdeen is a modern city with a beautifully evident archaeological past and offers all the shopping, dining, leisure and cultural activities you could want. The attractions here are numerous and varied, including the wonderful cultural attractions of the Aberdeen Art Gallery, the Gordon Highlanders Museum, the Maritime Museum and the Marischal Museum, covering 8000 years of local and world history. Another popular place to visit is the Satrosphere Science Centre, Scotland’s first science and discovery centre that opened to the public in 1988. The centre gives visitors the chance to explore over 50 hands-on interactive exhibits and live science shows.
