Abbeytown is a village in the historic tourist region of Cumbria, in Northern England. It developed more than 900 years ago around the former Cistercian Holm Cultram Abbey and so is often refered to as Holme Abbey. The nave of the abbey church is now incorporated into the present St. Mary's Church.
This is a prettily situated village that is characterised by a predominance of medieval buildings associated with the former abbey, along with some Victorian additions. Abbeytown is located on the edge of the Solway Coast area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is on the route of the Cumbria Coastal Way long-distance walk, which covers over 150 miles, although there are a number of more casual routes to follow and find refreshment at one of the countless country pubs or tea rooms in the area.
This is an excellent location that offers the benefit of closeness to the coast, to the historic sites of Northern Cumbria, and to the natural wonders and attractions of the Lake District National Park.
